(G) Packing & Luggage

How much luggage am I allowed to bring?

Many airlines are now charging for checked baggage. Once you have received your ticket, please consult directly with the airline that you are scheduled to fly on regarding their baggage policies and fees.

Any last minute items I shouldn't forget?

Passport, airline ticket, sunglasses, rain gear, your camera (and extra film and batteries) and sundry toiletry items are musts. You will also want to bring cash or credit card, another form of I.D. and any medication needed for the trip.

NOTE: See also Tanbible.com’s Knowledge Base / “Things to Bring”.

What type of clothes should I bring?

For touring, wear loose, comfortable cottons or other lightweight clothing that can be layered. Some of the tours involve long bus rides and/or considerable walking, so comfort is essential. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Comfortable shoes are a must! Bring a lined raincoat, a small umbrella, and a hat to protect you from both the rain and sun.

At some holy sites, men and women must have their knees and shoulders covered. Please check with your guide for any clothing restrictions for the following day.

Should I bring my prescription medicines?

Bring your medicine in the original bottle. Also bring a copy of the generic names for each.

Israel's health and medical facilities are renowned and equivalent to those found in the U.S. However, clients who take prescription medication should make sure they bring enough for the duration of their trip.

What should I do if my luggage is lost or damaged?

File a claim at the airport before you leave the baggage claim area. It will be the airline's responsibility to get lost luggage to you or to compensate you for damaged luggage. We will do our best to follow up with the airline but the responsibility ultimately rests with the airline. We strongly suggest that you pack at least one change of clothes in your carry-on bag.

If you are traveling as a couple, you may want to pack clothes for both in each suitcase. This way, if one suitcase is lost, each person will have clothing to wear.

What if I lose something on the tour?

Leave valuables, including items of sentimental value, at home! Double check your belongings before leaving the plane, hotels and buses. We cannot assume responsibility for lost items.

What should I expect upon arrival at the airport?

After going through passport control, you will need to collect your luggage (luggage carts may be free or available for an extra charge) and go through customs. You will be met by an airport representative outside the baggage claim area. Please follow instructions from our representative.

What about my luggage?

Upon arriving at the hotel, you will be asked to label your bag (with a sticker provided by the hotel) with your hotel room number. The porters will then bring your bag to your hotel room. Your will be responsible for your carry-on.

What does it mean by “porterage” of only one piece of luggage?

The price of the trip includes the tip for one piece of luggage for the hotel porters who deliver your large suitcase to your hotel room at the time of check-in, and who will bring your suitcase down from your room at the time of departure.

You will need to personally transport any carry-on items to the bus each day.
