Various
Views On The Rapture
by
Dr. Paul Lee Tan (1/10/00)
I.
PRE-TRIBULATIONISM
This is the strongest view.
= Rapture will occur before the Tribulation period.
(A) KEY VERSE: Rev.
3:10
(B) REASONS:
(1)
Nature of Tribulation and of Church different
(2) Helps us explain the Millennium
(3)
Helps us explain the Second Coming of Christ
(C)
BENEFITS:
(1) It
emphasizes Bible prophecy
(2) It
produces Blessed Hope
(3) It
safeguards Conservative doctrines
II.
POST-TRIBULATIONISM
This is another popular view.
=Rapture will occur after the Tribulation period.
(A) KEY VERSE: Matt.
24:29-31
(B)
REASONS:
(1)
Early church belief (supposed)
(2)
Imminency not mean "at any moment" but "soon"
(3)
Church will be protected through Tribulation
III.
PARTIAL RAPTURE
This belief is held by some Christians
=Only those who are "prepared" will be raptured
(A)
KEY VERSE: Phil. 3:10-11
(B) REASONS:
(1)
Unfair to let all Christians be raptured
(2)
Parable of the Ten Virgins
IV.
MID-TRIBULATIONISM
This is probably the weakest position.
=Rapture will occur at Middle of Tribulation period.
(A)
KEY VERSE: Matt. 24:8; Rev.
11
(B)
REASONS:
(1)
Desire to mediate between Pre- and Post-Tribulation
(2) It
seems “unfair” for lukewarm Christians to be raptured with
overcomers.
