GOD, EXISTENCE OF
No Proof in Bible
A University
of B.C. philosophy professor, Dr. Peter Remnant, told 1,100 students in
a noon-hour speech that “there is no proof in the Bible that God
exists.”
Quite right.
The existence of God is taken for granted in the Bible. The Scripture
started with these words: “In the beginning God … ” (Gen. 1:1).
“No Good” Cry Old Stuff
A pastor
entered a tavern where a man, wishing to embarrass him, rose and
suddenly called out quite loudly, “Es gibt keinen Gott” (“There is
no God”). The pastor went to him, calmly laid his hand on his
shoulder, and said, “Friend, what you have said is not at all new. The
Bible said that more than 2,000 years ago.” The man replied, “I
never knew that the Bible made such a statement.” The pastor informed
him, “Psalm 14, verse 1, tells us, “The fool says in his heart,
there is no God.” But there is a great difference between that fool
and you. He was quite modest and said it only in his heart; he didn’t
go about yelling it out in taverns.”
Gandhi On Atheism
Mahatma
Gandhi was once approached by an atheist with the request to organize
and promote an anti-God society. Gandhi replied, “It amazes me to find
an intelligent person who fights against something which he does not at
all believe exists.”
It Takes No Brains
Dwight D.
Eisenhower said, “It takes no brains to be an atheist. Any stupid
person can deny the existence of a supernatural power because man’s
physical senses cannot detect it. But there cannot be ignored the
mystery of first life … or the marvelous order in which the universe
moves about us. All of these evidence the handiwork of a beneficent
Deity. For my part, that Deity is the God of the Bible and Christ, His
Son.”
Statistical Monstrosity
Said George
Gallup, world-famed statistician, “I could prove God statistically!
Take the human body alone. The chance that all the functions of the
individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity!”
The Big Engineer Above
Thomas
Edison said: “No one can study chemistry and see the wonderful way in
which certain elements combine with the nicety of the most delicate
machine ever invented, and not come to the inevitable conclusion that
there is a Big Engineer who is running this universe.”
God Is Sued
George
Albrecht, 35, an electrician, filed a $25,000 damage suit against “God
and Company,” listing about 30 houses of worship and their clergymen
as co-defendants, after he had lost an earlier damage suit against the
city and a construction company. Albrecht had sought damages in the
early suit for injuries received when a sidewalk collapsed under him
during a rainstorm at a construction site. The trial jury ruled the
accident as “an act of God,” hence the second suit.

God is Again Sued
God is in
trouble in Santa Rosa, California.
It all began
when folk singer Lou Gottlieb deeded his thirty-one-acre ranch, a
controversial hippie haven, to God. The reluctant country recorder
finally gave in when Gottlieb showed him a coin on which was engraved,
“In God We Trust” and specified, “It’s this one.” As for
taxes, said Gottlieb, “For God’s sake, I’ll pay them.” But, he
added, it all would be “an interesting problem legally, as a test of
the intensity of belief of the authorities around here.”
A week later,
an Oakland secretary hit God with a civil summons for causing a
lightning bolt to strike and destroy four homes. The $100,000 damage
suit charges God with “careless and negligent” operation of the
universe, including the weather. Her attorney said he would try to
collect by attaching Gottlieb’s ranch (“property owned by God”)
when—and if—the deity fails to show up in court.
It appears
that one way or another God will have his day in court.
God Sues The U. S.
Donald Glen
Sneed of Dallas, Texas, has sued the United States government on behalf
of “all God’s children,” naming God as a co-plaintiff. Sneed filed
his suit to determine if the U. S. Government is subject to the laws of
God. Among things listed by Sneed as violations of God’s laws by the
Government, are the use of the environment without permission, minerals,
food, clothing, shelter; the destruction of God’s property by
pollution; the death of the American Indians during the settling of the
West; the deaths of soldiers and people in the war against Vietnam. The
Government has 60 days to reply. Whether the suit can ever go to court
is debatable because God’s written, as well as verbal, consent must be
given for filing the suit in His name.

The world embarrasses me, and I cannot think that this watch

The Christian answered, “Let me first ask you. Where is he not?”

The stars in our sky are more numerous than all the souls which
have departed this earth since the time of Adam, and their orbits and
velocities through the heavens faithfully obey a great code of law.
Earth’s scientists can quote and explain this code in great
detail—until you ask, “Whence came these laws?”
