ADULTERY
~Photo Discovery
Of Unfaithfulness
From London
comes this report: Two women were talking at a fashionable London
restaurant about their husbands. They showed each other
photographs—and realized they were married to the same man.
Today the
man—hotel night porter John Jones, 47—is in prison for five years.
He was married before he met either of the two women.
~ He Married 2
Women In 48 Hours
A Greek
student in Athens, Greece, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment on
charges of marrying two women within 48 hours. He appealed the sentence
and was set free pending a new trial. The court heard that Petros
Novaras, 29, married Vassiliki Chioti on Jan 24, 1971, in the central
Greek town of Lamia, and took off in his car for a honeymoon. After an
engine trouble, he sent his wife down to Athens on a bus.
In the
meantime, he went to a suburb in Athens and married a 29-year-old lass,
the court heard. He then continued his honeymoon with his second wife.
At the court the accused testified: “Both families were putting
unbearable pressure on me. So I decided to take them both so as not to
hurt anybody’s feelings.”

~Fifty Wives And
Shy Man
Some years
ago, the most married man in the world was found in Yugoslavia. It
happened this way: A young woman confided to her girl cousin of her
impending marriage to a man. The bridegroom was so shy and timid that he
wanted to keep the marriage a secret. The cousin got curious. She got a
glimpse of the bridegroom after the secret wedding, and recognized him
as her own husband. He had also married her secretly, claiming to be shy
and timid.
That was only
a beginning. A total of 50 women came forward and claimed that he had
individually married them. In each case, he was the same bashful
bridegroom. They called him Ivanhoe the Terrible, breaker of women’s
hearts. He was a traveling salesman, going from wife to wife by plane,
supporting all 50 of them, with the explanation to each that his duties
as a traveling salesman kept him away so much of the time.
They put him
in jail, and he begged to stay there. He’d rather be sent to prison
than face those fifty wives.
~The Wicked Bible
In 1623, Baker
and Lukas published a Bible in England since called “The Wicked
Bible,” because the little word “not” was omitted in the seventh
commandment: “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” The printers were
heavily fined by the High Commission and the whole edition destroyed.
~Courageous Gift
To Henry VIII
Latimer was
raised to the bishopric of Worcester in the reign of Henry VIII. It was
the custom of those days for each of the bishops to make presents to the
king on New Year’s Day. Latimer went with the rest of his brethren to
make the usual offering; but, instead of a purse of gold, he presented
the King with a New Testament, in which was a leaf doubled down to this
passage, “Whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”
