Ch.6: The Seal Judgments]
The Fifth Seal
6:9 I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for
the word of God...And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O
Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood
These are tribulational martyrs who were killed for their faith in Christ.
They were saved after the rapture of the church, most probably under the
ministry of the 144,000 evangelists (chapter 7).
Their cries would not deter persecution for they must "rest
yet for a little season" until the entire number of martyrs is
"fulfilled." This is probably the greatest period of persecution
in world's history, seconded by that under the Roman persecution.
