[Revelation Ch.19: Second Coming of Christ]

I. Heaven's Hallelujah Chorus

Here is the only place in the Bible where the word "hallelujah" occurs. And it appears four times.  This word is an Old Testament term, taken from the Psalms, which means "Praise the Lord."

Handel, in writing the sublime Hallelujah Chorus received inspiration from this majestic passage of praise and adoration to God. The great rejoicing in heaven is occasioned by the final triumph of good over evil, God over Satan.

A. Voice of Much People

REV 19:1-3  And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God...For true and righteous are his judgments...And again they said, Alleluia

Such rejoicing interestingly contrasts with the abject weeping of the merchants and idol-worshippers over the doom of the city Babylon! Today, noises and sounds are from the earth; someday, it will all be from heaven. Christ will descend as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Since they are singing a song of salvation and redemption, we should identify this multitude of singers are the redeemed of all ages: Old Testament saints, New Testament Christians, and Tribulational believers.

B. Voice of 24 Elders

REV 19:4  And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

Five times in the book of Revelation, we see this special group (cf.Rev.4) of representative saints praising God. It appears that they frequently break out in spontaneous praise and adoration before God. The four instances of recorded praise are--

          Rev. 4:10,11 -- for God's creation

          Rev. 5:8,9 -- for Christ's worthiness

Rev. 7:11,12 -- for Tribulation saints

          Rev. 11:16-18 -- for God's kingdom

          Rev. 19:4 -- for Christ's return

C. Voice of An Angel

REV 19:5  And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

This is evidently the voice of an angel near the throne. Perfect praise comes from those who voluntarily express the feelings of their hearts. The angels of heaven once made a definite decision to follow God (in contrast to Lucifer), and they have been happy ever since. The language of heaven is that of praise.

D. Voice of Great Multitude

REV 19:6  And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

Here is a combined choir from all the angels and the redeemed in heaven. Its theme relate to the triumphant return of Christ and the kingdom on earth.
