[Revelation
Ch.18: Commercial Babylon]
III.
The Worldwide Lament
REV
18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with
her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance
of her delicacies.
It appears that the city of Babylon will someday become a commercial
center of the world. Her goods are abundant, her luxurious pleasures
appealing, and her fame transcends the sea.
REV
18:8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and
mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire
Ancient Babylon was slowly neglected and gradually deteriorated. The
future Babylon shall suddenly, "in one day," be burned with
fire. This could depict the awesome fire-power of modern weaponry that
Iraq had already so tragically witnessed upon herself in early 1991.
REV
18:9-11 And the kings of the earth...And the merchants of the
earth shall weep and mourn over her
With the collapse of this great future city, world economy will be set
reeling. Perhaps the price of oil will skyrocket, national economies go on
a spiral, many stock markets are bearish.
