[Revelation
Ch.4: Worship in Heaven]
II.
The Throne of God
REV
4:2-3 And, behold, a throne was set in heaven...And he that sat
was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a
rainbow round about the throne
The throne of God is the central focus and object of heaven. Everything
revolves around the throne. John saw it first, upon entering heaven.
John does not attempt to name, much less describe absolute Deity. He used
the colors of two brilliant gems to describe God.
"Jasper" or diamond is clear like crystal.
"Sardine" has the most perfect red color. The absolute purity
and redemption of God is surrounded by a rainbow, which is a sign of God's
covenant with His people.
Therefore, although Revelation presents God executing judgment, there
there is purity and redemption, as well as covenant integrity surrounding
heaven's judgments.
