B.
Mid-Tribulational War (11:40-45)
DAN
11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push
at him
The term "time of the end" puts this account at the second half
of the tribulation. According to the immediate context (v.36),
"him" refers to the antichrist. The Arab-African nations
initiates the war by attacking Israel. Since the antichrit has a treaty of
protection with Israel, this also meant an attack on the antichrist.
DAN
11:40 ...and the king of the north shall come against him like a
whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships
As part of a pincer
move, Russia also attacks Israel (read: Antichrist). The northern forces
come via land and sea, its land armies would include the use of horses
because of the rough terrain between the two countries.
DAN
11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land
Here we see two schools, which identifies the subject of "he"
differently--
#1 Antichrist
#2 Russia
Proponents of #1 view logically place the north-south attack on Israel at
the end of the tribulation. Proponents of the #2 view
naturally place the north-south attack on Israel at the middle of
the tribulation.
DAN
11:41 ...into the glorious land
If #1 Antichrist--the antichrist counter attacks by sweeping into Israel
to establish his home-base there.
If #2 Russia--the Northern forces, continuing the description of verse 40,
enters Palestine and kills the antichrist (Rev.13 "head wound").
DAN
11:41 ...these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab,
and the chief of the children of Ammon.
In God's divine plan, these areas adjacent to the Dead Sea would be spared
the antichrist\northern invasion.
DAN
11:42 ...and the land of Egypt shall not escape
#1 Antichrist--he attacks Egypt, the Libyans and Ethiopians (v.43) who had
initiated the attack in the first place.
#2 Russia--With the death of the antichrist in Israel, the Northern forces
continues its downward sweep into Egypt and other parts of Africa.
DAN
11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall
trouble him
#1 Antichrist--Distressing news of the coming Oriental invasion with 200
million men (Rev. 9:16; 16:12).
#2 Russia--Distressing news of the Resurrection of the Antichrist in
Palestine (Rev. 13 "wound was healed")
DAN
11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between
the seas in the glorious holy mountain
#1 Antichrist--The antichrist goes back to Palestine and establishes
headquarters in Israel.
#2 Russia--The Northern forces makes a U-turn back to Palestine to fight
the resurrected Antichrist.
DAN
11:45 ...he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
#1 Antichrist--As the world's forces gather to fight each other at the
Battle of Armageddon in Israel, Christ returns. Antichrist is judged and
thrown into the Lake of Fire (Rev.19:20).
#2 Russia--As the King of the North prepares to fight the Antichrist in
Israel, God rains down judgment on the northern forces (cf. Ezek. 38, 39).
The Russian forces is totally annihilated. This allows the Antichrist to
rule over the world.
