Ch.11: Pre-Written History of Kings]
I.
Parade of Persian Kings (11:2)
DAN
11:2 Yet three kings in Persia
The first three successors of Cyrus on the Persian throne were: (1)
Cambyses, started Fall of 530; (1) Gautama "Pseudo-Smerdis," an
usurper, who started in Spring, 522; and (3) Darius I "Hystaspis"
who began in Spring of 521. He is the "Darius" of Ezra 4:24.
DAN
11:2 And the fourth...against the realm of Grecia.
The fourth successor to Cyrus was Xerxes I "Longimannus." He
spent four years gathering an army of 2,500,000 men from forty nations to
conquer Greece. At the Battle of Salamis (480), his fleet was ruined and
at Platea (479) his army routed. He is the "Ahasherus" of Esther
1:1.
Then follows a line of Persian kings, the last of which--Darius III "Codomanus"--was
defeated by Alexander the Great at the Battle of Issus (333).
