[Daniel
Ch.6: Daniel and the Lions]
III.
The King Who Could Not Sleep (6:18-28)
DAN
6:18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting:
neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went
from him.
It
was not Daniel who suffered, but the king. His night was spent fasting and
praying; while Daniel evidently fell soundly asleep.
DAN
6:22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths
Daniel's
night among the lions was a pleasant one. Perhaps he had them as blankets
and pillows. Only one angel was needed to shut all the lions' mouths.
Daniel was so sure of God and His deliverance that he would have been the
most astonished man in Mesopotamia if a lion had even given him a scratch
(cf. v.22).
"Wherefore
let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of
their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator" (I Pet.
4:19).
Daniel
was in the lion's den less than 12 hours.
DAN
6:24 They brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them
into the den of lions...and the lions had the mastery of
them...
or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
Question:
Why was Daniel not eaten by the lions, but his enemies were?
Answer:
Because Daniel was already full of bones--back bone!
