[Introduction
to Daniel]
II.
The Man Daniel
Daniel was a Hebrew lad, taken captive to Babylon after the first conquest
of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar in 605 B.C. The northern ten tribes had
already been exiled in 722 B.C.
Daniel was trained in the court of Babylon. He was taught in all the
learnings of Babylon and was well-treated. The book recorded events up to
the 3rd year of Cyrus the Persian king (536 B.C.), covering a span of
about 70 years. Maybe Daniel himself lived 6 or more years longer and
write this book at the latter part of his long life.
Here was a man of conviction, who set himself apart for God. Far from home
and the Jerusalem temple, this teenage exile had a lifelong habit of daily
prayers, fasting, and Scriptural study.
